Getting ready to go to Mexico…

February 15th, 2007 by Christian and Alysia.

We’re making the final preparations to go to Mexico.

We’ll be heading to WashDC in mid-March for our staging event.

And then, it’s on to Queretaro which is just a little north of Mexico City.

I didn’t know that Peace Corps was in Mexico? When did that happen? I’ve been to almost every state in Mexico. Querretaro is very nice.

P.S. I live in Silver Spring, MD. Let me know where your staging event is and perhaps I can stop by.

    Wow - that’s cool.

I guess it’s a fairly new program in Mexico. PC has been there since around 2004.

Glad to hear Qerretaro is nice - we’re definitely looking forward to our stay there.

Staging for us is in downtown Wash DC.

    How did you like Guatemala?

I am kind of shocked that they have PeaceCorps in Queretaro…it seemed so middle class! I did Spanish school there before heading to PeaceCorps in Panama, it was an amazing cultural experience and the area around Queretaro has so much to offer in terms of culture. What kind of program do they have you doing in Queretaro? Well good luck to you, I am sure it is going to be amazing! Wakan

Oh, I may have mislead you a little. Our training will be in Queretaro, but our actual assignment is in Puebla.

Puebla is nice. Also quite developed. Its sister city is Pueblo, Colorado. I’m not sure how active the partnership is. When I lived in Pueblo, there did not seem to be much interchange.

Puebla has a cool zoo, where the animals are aload to roam around. I remember the zoo in Guatemala city as just the opposite. It was very depressing, not only seeing all of the animals caged, but because a lot of handicapped individuals chose that place to sit and beg. Anyway, let me know where your staging is going to be and perhaps I’ll drop by. I have a few contacts in Mexico and also Pueblo.
