question about nomination- any help???

June 29th, 2006 by asliva.

I was recently nominated for service in Latin America for June of 2007. Although I am excited about the nomination I was a little disappointed b/c the departure date is a year away. When I asked my recuiter if there were any other assignments leaving earlier then that, in any region, in any area, she said no and was kinda rude about my asking so I decided not to mention that I really also had wanted a placement in Africa. Anyways, she said that there was always the slight posibility that something sooner would open up but she didn’t sound to optimistic. So I was wondering if anyone knew how likely it would be for me to end up getting invited to a different region or an earlier departure date???? Has anyone had an experience like that? or are the nominations pretty much always what you get?

If you are excited about that area, then I would say tell your recruiter. I treat this recruiting the same way I would tell someone to treat army recruiting you gotta negotiate and be tough, don’t be push over cause they benefit from getting you signed up.

If they’re a problem, talk to a different recruiter. Its not that hard, just cold call into the office and ask to speak to somebody. Odds are you’ll get a new person.

And always remember, the application process not only tests your patience, it also tests your patience.

I just found this site and hope i can get some reassurance dealing with my anxiety over not knowing were I’ll be placed. i was nominated back in Jan 06 for what I thought was a program in the South Pacific. Just 2 weeks ago I discussed Eastern Europe as a placement with my placement officer. I though i’d be staging out in Set. or Oct, but still no news. Today I called him and can’t even leave a message cause his mail box is full. I’m getting nervious and worried they will just put me in any slot. I have recently retired from a teaching/ administrator career and hope my placement will best utilize my skills.
