Question about education requirements

January 15th, 2007 by bakiesj.

Hello,

I have a question about the degree requirement etc.  I contacted a recruiter because I have a college degree but my husband does not.  We are getting ready to apply.  The recruiter told me that as long as he had 18 months construction experience (he has construction/minimal plumbing experience) he should be ok.  He does meet the 18 months requirement though his construction employment is scattered.  He was also in the military but not for construction.  I’m 28.  He’s 29.  I know I’ll have no problems getting in.  However, I’m not so sure about my husband.  My guess is that we may be placed somewhere in Latin America as we both had Spanish in high school and I also had it in college.  Has anyone had this issue before or does anyone have any facts or advice about this situation.  Have any of you gotten in without a college degree?

Thanks

I had only one PCV colleague who was in without a college degree. I know it is very, very challenging to serve without one. Ironically, your husband probably would make an incredibly effective volunteer with his construction skills- much more so than most brand new english major college graduates- but I have to be honest, I think the chances of his getting in are quite slim. I don’t think the military experience is in his favor, either. I wish both of you the best of luck, though! If you decide this is really what you want, don’t let the beurocrats keep you from it!
