bus mishap

So all PCV’s are in different towns. There are about 4-5 pcv’s in everytown. Hub is when we all get together for 2 days and have technical training about saftey, teaching, health, and various other things. We just did that monday and tuesday.

It was really nice to see everyone again. We had so much fun telling stories about our host families, crazy things from our town, and other general things. My towns biggest story was the we visted a local town about 4mi away on sunday. We went to Kretchem to use their internet and the internet phone which is very inexpensive. We ended up shopping and hiking up a mountain as well. It was a great day full of first events. It was our first bus trip all by ourselves, first time ordering off a bulgarian menu, and first bulgarian mountain hike. At lunch some local business men bought us icecream for no reason….strange. Anyway another pcv came by said he had heard we were in town. We had only been in town for about an hour…strange. He invited us on a hike with others.

We went with a local host family and had garlic rubbed on our shoes to ward off snakes. Then we got fairly high and drank water out of a pipe comming out of the stream. Everyone was doing it, so of course we did too. Hopefully we dont get a water virus :-) Then we went higher and stopped at a picnic table. There was another group of bulgarians near by. Some old guy who was wearing shoes that said ABC on them asked me if i would like some rakia (a very nasty home brew whiskey). I said no, no, no. He said yes, yes, yes. In the end he poured me just a “little” bit. It was awful!!! But I lived through it.

After this we went to the internet phone to call our mothers. I called my sister and mother. I talked to my dad. How strange on mothers day to only be able to reach your father. But it was good and I was so happy to talk to him. I hadnt spoken to him since i left the country.

Then, me and my three friends went to catch our bus. The last bus left at nine and it was 745. We were golden. Except that the last bus actually left at 740!! NOT COOL. Being that it was only four miles, we walked. We ran into the principal of our school working on his farmland. We told him of our plight and he agreed that it was unfortunate. No ride was offered. We contuined to walk past a random heard of goats. Then we started to sing 99 bottles of beer on the wall~ALL THE WAY TO ZERO!. Any of you actually finished that song?? Still we were not home. So we went through all the kid songs we knew. Finally we were home.

Stephanies host mom pinched her ear b/c we were late and she was worried. And her real mom had called 3 times from utah and was freaking out. So she got yelled at by her host mom AND real mom. That is some very bad luck. She told her mom about the ear pinch and her mom was glad and told stephanie to have the other ear pinched too! Ahhh moms. Always there when you need em.

Anyways, it was crazy times.
