A handful of volunteers took these clips over the years while serving in Guyana.

I recommend setting up an account through Google Video if you have videos from your experience, they will host your clips for free.

I found this list via Del.icio.us, it has recommendations for a lot of Peace Corps countries. Here in Guyana we started our own list, we thought it would be helpful to add to the list we were given before staging.

Someone needs to get a wiki running with all this info.

I met this Frenchman living in La Guyane while I was serving in Guyana. He was pretty cool but didn’t speak very much english…anyway he wrote me (again) in French of course…here is the original:

On a déjá gagné 2 nuits d hotel !!! Bueno no ?

And the Google Translation:

After having waited three days two nights with the port, one finally took off, finally way of speaking… One arrived to Belem aujourdhui, after 43 H of boat (!!!!), oú there was a good environment, a guitarist who put the fire all the night (kind variét brasiou) accompanied by ten people knowing the songs by heart, á the arriére of the boat á ètage, unforgettable, of the sympathetic Colombians aui travelled ds one tripotée of countries by earning their living from day to day, trés intèressant and quite funny, full D energy, also ten people interessées by the pendentive ones out of coconut qu one manufactures with Tito. There is déjá gained 2 nights D hotel!!! Bueno No? thus todo well or todu Ben, I nái more the dengue, it left when the voyage started, in Oyapock. Tito found Felipe and Jina which remembered to its good memory. At this beginning of voyage, a great turning of its existence, Tito will be made tattoo by Felipe (wink with Grobi; its shoulder is famous with the Fortaleza-foto hotel of the fist in fury -) and it set out again!

Can anyone tell me if this Google translation is close?

…quite randomly. My boss and I were coming back from a regional meeting in Suriname and at the ferry crossing into Guyana, I met a traveler by the name of Rafael. He was a young Frenchmen living in La Guyane. He was building a treehouse in the middle of the rainforest and living off the land. He played the didgeridoo and would travel sporadically, taking it with him to make enough money to move on to the next place.

Rafael spoke little english and I spoke no french but he hung out at my house for a day and then moved on to Robert’s and then to Venezuela. Well today I heard from him…in french…so I used Google Translate and this is what I got…anyone reading this that knows french, I would love a proper translation.

Ca is there, the account with flock is launched with my pal Tito, one apprète to leave Tuesday August 9. No thought of return ds the year which follows. To live more than to travel, volà what one wants to touch of the finger. To open with all the possibilities which are offered on our course, to play of the music and to put at the art of street ds juggling and the MIME, the craft industry also, to be discovered vis-a-vis a vital need and to be brought to exchange our knowledge to make and our good energy, for a handle of material which will amply be enough for us for our daily needs until the following day, where without stop we will have to start again the machine with good energy, to arrange NS feared and our weaknesses, to sink by keeping the smile. And so the very same day it does not laugh there to eat, it is that tomorrow will be a feast!!! South America direction. It is vast, then pourqoi not to take L time, one sets ds the 5 year old surroundings. One starts initially by furrowing Brazil, then Argentina, to this ground of fire, where only the good old men virus as the influenza form part D infectious decoration. The idea of going slowly will allow a softer acclimatization all the climatic, food changes and way of life. then one will go up quietly towards Colombia while passing by Chile Peru, Bolivia Ecuador, and at least Costa Rica to re-examine old knowledge which deserves without any doubt that I pass on their premises to thank them for having made me visit their culture and for certain(e)s their heart. and then if the Nomadism did not use me by then, amériqu ceentrale it is not far from Mexico, the United States, but that it is another history Voili voilou, the life well then why not will do what one smells since the years, the fascination of the unknown, the irresistible desire for knowing people more than their landscapes, by sharing their living condition. I know a peit few of what I speak, then I leave trustful but not conqueror. Good sun with all and soon
