&lt;p&gt;Yes, take a digital camera to Africa.  My daughter served in Namibia 2004 to 2006, and took lots of pictures and shared them with family and friends back home through Snapfish, the online photo sharing site.  She used a Canon S2IS which has a 12x optic zoom.  I visited her twice, shooting with a Panasonic with 12x zoom and image stabilization.  You'll want a camera with good zoom so you can take pictures of all the wonderful African wildlife!&lt;/p&gt;
