So I have successfully completed all of my medical materials and am now waiting on clearance. I’ve already had to go back to the doctors twice to fix materials. I think the end might be in-site for medical clearance. I have been nominated for Africa in the field of community development scheduled to leave at the end of May. I am so excited! How long did it take for some of you after medical clearance to get your invitation? Also I was wondering what type of camera some of you take to Africa. Is it practical to take a digital camera?

I would think you will get your invitation very soon, if they place you to leave at the end of May. I received my invitation for Moldova in Eastern Europe a full six months ahead of time (March 7th for departure September 9th).

Yes, take a digital camera to Africa. My daughter served in Namibia 2004 to 2006, and took lots of pictures and shared them with family and friends back home through Snapfish, the online photo sharing site. She used a Canon S2IS which has a 12x optic zoom. I visited her twice, shooting with a Panasonic with 12x zoom and image stabilization. You’ll want a camera with good zoom so you can take pictures of all the wonderful African wildlife!
