Waiting…

March 14th, 2007 by efarthur.

I was nominated back in August of 06′ , completed my medical by November, and plan on going to Central or South America in September of 07′. There has been such a gap in the timeframe I am getting worried that they are going to reject my application now. I was wondering if anyone knows if they ever reject people after they have nominated them.

Your concern has me worried about my situation…i was nominated back in october of 06 but wasn’t able to get my medical completed until just recently,my departure date is set for late august in the same region as you, as a matter of fact i’m looking at an envelope that needs to be sent to the peace corps dental office…i just hope my departure date isn’t delayed either….i don’t think that they would re-neg on their nomination unless you got a dui or robbed a bank lately…oh by the way i’m in ag extention program…what about you..
    take care,
    chris

Don’t sweat it. I’m in the same situation (medically cleared 11/06, nominated for 9/07 program) and have called the PC office. I was told they’re dealing with lots of PCVs who will be deployed before us it could take “a couple of months” before we hear from the.

It won’t hurt to drop a call to placement to touch base — which is what I did, plus I sent them an update to my volunteer experience — but I got the impression it’s not really needed. They’re just dealing with a large number of volunteers who’ll be leaving before we will be.

I should be doing something in Health, it seems quite vague. I have contacted some people from the PC office and they have told me similar things, so it good to hear that I am not the only one who is in this situation. Thanks for your help and good luck!

Don’t worry!!! I was nominated in February of 06. I wasn’t medically cleared until the end of December of 06. I missed the departure date for my original nomination (January 07), but I”m leaving this June! I was completely worried too, but it all works out. Do NOT panic!

    Best of luck!

I am also nominated for Latin America for Sept 07 for health. I’ve been medically cleared since early January and haven’t heard anything since. It’s frustrating having to wait so long and I worry all the time too. It would be so nice to just have the invitation so I can stop speculating and playing the what ifs! Oh and according to the unofficial directory it looks like there is a health program in Peru in sept. There is also one in the Dominican Republic but I wasn’t sure if that country is included in Latin America nominations (I hope not!).

Alex, What is the “unofficial directory”?

If you’re worried, call HQ and touch base. That’s what was recommended in the “What to know before you go” book.

I never actually spoke to them, just left a message and a day or so later had the “hang tight, large number of volunteers” message on my VM.

Seems there are a bunch of us ready for 9/07 departure. I’m Eastern Europe, business or something like that. I’ve actually forgotten what I was nominated for!

If you go to the yahoo peace corps group under files there is an unofficial directory. I think you might have to join to access it. It is not 100% accurate because it is updated after people get their invitations. But many programs stay the same each year so it gives you a good idea of what countries and programs leave each month.

    alex,
were you invited yet? my recruiter still said i have more time to be medically cleared before the september deadline. anyway, i had the same nomination as you, and saw that i will probably be sent to the dominican republic bc i was nominated for hiv/aids specifically. i’m really bummed that the caribbean is lumped in with central/south ameirca. i got excited when i saw health leaving for peru in september.
anyway let me know where you are going and if you know anything. thanks!
