Third Goal Reaches 50 Users
June 16th, 2005 by Jason Pearce.Third Goal reaches 50 users, though only 17 have posted content on the site.
For the rest of you, I remind you that Third Goal is a community blog designed to help Peace Corps volunteers anonymously share their stories with others. Cool features include:
- Content filtered by author (hey, that’s you)
- Content filtered by subject (e.g. country, region, or even continent)
- Content filtered by date (in case you missed something)
- Folks can comment on your adventure (you’ll even get an email)
- Hundreds of people visit Third Goal every day (they’re curious about what it’s like to be a Peace Corps volunteer)
- It even has a wiki (content created by all)
- Your participation is free and encouraged (perfect for the Peace Corps budget)
Third Goal is only as good as its authors and their ability to regularly post content that might interest others.
To increase participation, I’ve begun marketing the site via Google’s AdWords. Last month, more than 10,000 people viewed an advertisement to visit Third Goal while another 2,000 learned about its photo pool on Flickr.
If you are a Peace Corps volunteer looking for a way to share your story with others, consider Third Goal your home. If you are a visitor and would like to read more about Peace Corps experiences, add a few comments to the stories already posted encouraging them to post more.
Having a voice on the internet is getting easier every day. According to one report, a new blog is created every seven seconds. Sharing your story is no longer the problem; getting heard is.
By participating in a community blog focused on a single topic, your voice and stories will be heard by a greater audience. Readers will begin to flock to Third Goal to learn the latest trials and tribulations of a large group of volunteers.
Visitors who know your pen name - your friends and family - can visit a link that contains just your most recent posts. Strangers who don’t personally know anyone in the Peace Corps, however, receive combined content from all authors in any given region.
By adding your story and voice to Third Goal, you help create a sustainable resource that “Help[s] promote a better understanding of other peoples on the part of all Americans.” –The Peace Corps’ third goal
