??? a little help from my friends ???

August 8th, 2006 by jenny.

I am now freaking out because I was honest in my application and said that I had had councelling for like four months back in 2001. I had been on Zoloft for like a year but i have been completely councelling and drug free for like five years now. I don’t know if that is going to have an impact on wether I get into the peace corps!!! I have my medical and eye exams done, I am having my dental exam this week and I have to reschedule my quick visit to the same person that I had the councelling with five years ago. After all that I can finally send in my medical packet. Does anyone know if that might affect my chances?

Some counseling came up in my medical history too, but after I gave them a description it didn’t seem to matter at all. I wouldn’t woory too much. My experience with the medical process was that they will be very thorough, for good or bad. Just send in the forms (all 11 million) and you’ll be fine.

Hey, I was freakin over the same problem and I had taken meds only 2 years before. Don’t stress, I got in and am leaving in two weeks for Morocco. We just think it is a big deal cause were stressed about this whole process but they really didnt give a hoot. Good luck!

I went to a shrink when I was seventeen for about three months. I still had to get a check out and approval from a shrink before I went over. She just talked to me about why I was in counseling and then had me write about it. then I got the approval letter ($150 later). Basically PC just wants to know that you are this side of stable and are unlikely to be eligible for a ‘whack-a-vac’ once you get into country.

I went on Paxil a couple of months before I left for service, they just wanted to be sure I wasn’t going to freak out in-country. Which I didn’t. Because I was on Paxil. You should be fine. Just be honest.
