How Long?
September 5th, 2006 by JessPon.Can anyone tell me, how much time passed from when you turned in your medical kit to when you received your invitation? Also, what is the process for receiving the invitation- do they call and let you know it’s on the way or what?

it depends on your medical. if there is follow up then it will be awhile longer, if everything is good maybe 3-6 weeks. they send you an invitation to let you know. you can bug your recruiter if you feel like it has been too long

Mine close to 9 months. They had lost it and I had to resubmit, but I was finally invited to Lesotho in November of 2002. I ended up not leaving until June of 2003 for Guyana.
I called them about a million times and found out that way that I was accepted.

Yup, it depends on many factors. If there is nothing to follow up with medically (I had to get wisdom teeth removed), the length of time also depends on how busy they are and when the program you were nominated to is scheduled to leave. If it is supposed to leave soon (January, 2007) you’ll hear back sooner. If you were nominated to a program leaving in mid 2007, you may be put on the back burner while they deal with more immediate applicants. As for the invitation, I got an invitation packet in the mail one day. Other volunteers in my group got a phone call. So it sounds like there is no set protocol for everyone. But you can call and ask the placement office. Just don’t harass or be pushy. They know people are excited, and that is good. But just show you are curious and will wait if necessary.

So, kdub, if I have been nominated for a Sept. 07 position, it might take a while longer for my health to be OK’d? My dental went right through, but I’m still holding for the health.
How long after the health clearance does one normally get an invite? I’d applied for June 07 at the earliest, but the nomination is a bit later, so I’m kind of figuring I’ve got a long time to wait.
Who did you contact in placement? A department, or a specific person? I know my file has been passed off from the recruiter to the placement officer, but I wasn’t given a name.
Thanks.

Kjim-
My nomination is for June 2007.
I can tell you the office of medical has told me that since my date is so far away I should not expect to hear anything until Dec.
So far, my file has been in D.C. for over 10 weeks.
My dental also came back immediatly, but the office of medical is not so quick.
