Eastern Europe/Central Asia Nomination
October 16th, 2006 by knees7.Hi all. I’ve just been nominated to Eastern Europe/Central Asia, Health Extension, leaving late May/early June 2007. Just wanted to see if anyone else out there was nominated for this assignment as well. Also, was wondering if any current or past volunteers had any insight into what exactly this job entails. How is the work, the countries, the people?

Congratulations on your nomination!
I know of at least two countries in the region you mentioned that have Health Extension programs leaving in early June… Armenia and Moldova!
Each Health Extension program differs. For example, in Moldova you work in schools (you have set classes each week) whereas in Armenia you have optional after school health clubs.
Other programs have you working with clinics only…
As for culture, it will obviously differ by country. Though there is often a lingering soviet mind set in this region.
Did your nomination say anything else?
Example, my nomination said:
”Health Extension - volunteers work in schools and health related NGOS to provide health and life skill education to youth.”
