Maybe this is actually going to happen??

February 9th, 2007 by Licho.

Well, good news…after much delay I finally am medically cleared!! yeah!! My original program was from Latin America doing Health Education starting Feb 2007 and as you know it is Feb 2007 and I’m still in Central Washington. So I am now waiting to hear from the placement office about my new program which looks to be starting in early May. Oh the roller-coaster of Peace Corp nomination. ugh. But I feel as if this is actually going to happen… That sometime this year I will begin this adventure I’ve been counting down for for oh so long. Que bueno.

whoa…that worries me. My recruiter said he wanted to put me on the fast track for a departure. I’ve already scheduled my appointments to begin my medical clearance. The kit should arrive today and my appointments start next week. Can you tell me a bit more about this process? I got nominated to a program in Eastern Europe departing in June.

oh sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you. okay, make appts now!! If you dont have the paperwork yet, then download it for mytoolkit so that doesn’t hold you up. Also, just remember to cross all your T’s and dot all your I’s. haha. That means a lot when it comes to Peace Corps. And the mistake that I made was I didn’t call my PC Nurse enough. Because when I thought that even thing was okay, she was saying that I was medically deferred. So call, call, and then call again. Because they are busy and NEED to be reminded. haha. For example, I thought I turned everything in and my nurse’s assistant was like yeah looks great, so I just wait and waited and one month later found out I was missing something. So talk to THE source. and ask questions. My Nurse kept forgetting to tell me things like I needed a Polio shot after I was 18 and my shot records.

Don’t worry. Just stay on top of it and pester your nurse. haha. Good luck and feel free to e-mail me if you have specific questions. I’d love to help anyone from my experience.

P.s. June should be more than enough to get it all in and cleared.

    what’s your email??

I’ve been pretty good about staying on top of things in terms of getting paper work in. I’ve been holding on tight to this dream of mine because well…just time to grab life by the horns and get out of Seattle.

    Wow
I had no problems whatsoever getting cleared. But yes make sure that you have everything filled out! No N/As allowed!!! I sent my medical and was cleared within a week. I was cleared within days for dental. I guess I am the odd exception. Do call your Nurse/dental/med person with any questions. I actually called the MEdical officer not the nurse which was helpful and that was only once.
    Good luck
