HIV/AIDS in Africa
December 5th, 2007 by Waiting.I’m a Peace Corps nominee to sub-Saharan Africa, hoping to work on HIV education. While I’m waiting for my medical clearance, I’d like to start researching HIV/AIDS in Africa. I’ve found many new books available, but I’m wondering which are the most accurate and honest resources. It’s easy to slant the issue for political reasons, and I don’t want to be led down someone’s ideological path. Can anyone recommend some good books or other resources? Also, I’d love to correspond with anyone who is working or has worked in Africa on HIV/AIDS issues.

Hello,
I also will be going to sub-Saharan Africa and working on HIV/AIDS. I am waiting for my invitation with all the info and would like to share any information you or anyone else has. I am a nurse so I have the medical background although I have not worked directly with a lot of HIV + patients. I am thinking of volunteering at a hospice or residence for people with HIV; to understand better what they are going through and what helps them deal with the multitude of symptoms, while I am waiting for my departure. I don’t know of any specific books, but there is a lot of info on the internet. I downloaded a manual from the Partners In Health website that focuses on Community Based Treatment of HIV in Resource Poor Settings.
