Training & Language - Costa Rica
January 10th, 2007 by zhenadee.I’ve accepted an invitation for a Community Development project in Costa Rica for March 2007. I visited Costa Rica for one month a few summers ago and my Spanish needs massive overhaul. I’ve basically forgotten everything about the country and I’m wondering what I need to do to prepare for this experience. Some have recommended brushing up on Spanish which makes sense. Any other advice regarding language? For the technical training, do people come in know what they want to do or are projects assigned to PCV? I read up on the Peace Corps awhile ago and the book “So you want to join the Peace Corps” was pretty helpful. Are there any valuable resources that I should be aware of?
Thanks,

Sadly I don’t have any answers to your questions, but I can say that we’re in the same situation! I’m also leaving for Costa Rica this March for a community development post. I’ve definitely been brshing up on my Spanish since I’ve forgotten most of my language skills. As for technical training…I’m not too worried about it yet. After speaking to a few returned volunteers I’m pretty sure that we’ll have time during training to figure out we want to do and then Peace Corps will use our preferences and individual skills to determiine where we go in Costa Rica.
Nos vemos!
